In Canada? In January? Shouldn’t they all have winter tires?

isn’t it law in Ontario that you have them? so if your renting in Ontario shouldn’t snow tires just be standard on those cars?

In quebec yes, since we have to have winter tires, no such law for the rest of canada.

Ah, those pesky socialist Frenchmen. Always looking out for the lowest common denominator of humanity.

Sounds like a challenge

No, just Quebec, I just assumed a car rental company wouldn’t want their customers sliding into oncoming traffic.

Nope. Only Quebec and British Columbia.

I really don’t get all the quebec hate on oppo.
I for one am happy that quebec passed that law back in 2007. Didn’t change much for me since I’ve been driving with winters since I started driving in 1995. At least I know that everyone else on the road also has winter tires.
P.S I live in north-western quebec, so winter tires have always been a necessity over here.

silly you, they get to charge extra for them. Making money is always a greater cause than logic and safety.

Sorry, I should have put some sort of qualifier for sarcasm! Please don’t take my post seriously! I only said it in jest.

BC doesn’t have the mandatory law, you just get $165 tickets if you get stopped on the highways without ‘snowflake’ symbols.

Didn’t know that. Does that apply to out of province visitors too?

This sounds kinda mandatory.

Problem is 60% of people in the province live in the lower mainland where there is never any snow- the rest of us already have winters on..
“Designated winter highways” require snowflakes..

M+S will do if you have more than 3.5mm left as well. Only some sizes of the old bfg at had snowflakes, lol.
Recently one of our passes, the Coquihalla, was closed by an accident. While traffic was stopped waiting for the highway to open the RCMP walked up and down the line giving out tickets and turning cars around.
Up here we get the Toyo C/T; It looks like it’s trying to beat the Ko2 and Duratracs as a winter specific truck tire.. plus you can stud them.
